Don't go for the views, go for the awesome rock filled creeks and lush vegetation. Any views that you get are just a bonus.

Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday...there is no someday.
summer is a tough time to get views...
I took this pic at Charlie's Bunion in March...35*F and BEAUTIFUL! I could see a very, very long way that day

But 35 is quiet a bit cooler than the expected 80-90's i will encounter, awesome pic though.
It will likely be smoggy and humid with poor long-range visibility. July and August are pretty brutal here in NC. I'm new to hammocking, and I kept seeing all the posts about keeping warm. All I could think is how am I going to keep cool.
Also, there is a lot of air conditioning in use in July, so the TVA (Tenn Valley Authority) is really cranking to keep up with power demands, and they are a huge contributor to smog in the area, in addition to what comes from road traffic.
It is rare to have clear blue skies in July in the Smokies. Most of the time the skies are Carolina White.
Salty
No not really, views were just a big part of my trip planning. May decide to head north instead of south. Im taking my little brother on his first hike, i want it to be as good as it can be for him, thats all. I have no attitude about it one way or the other. I will be driving a prius, so i will be contributing less than most.
Haha, you have a good sense of humor. I hope everyone has a great time. Remember, it's Black Bear country and you can count on running into a lot of skeeters and ticks that time of year, so plan accordingly and enjoy!
By the way, have you ever considered hiking the Citico Creek Wilderness Area instead? It's in the Cherokee National Forest in TN, and if you plan your hike right, you can hike 3 different wilderness areas in one trip. Citico, Joyce Kilmer-Slickrock. One of the most beautiful wilderness areas you'll ever hike. Loaded with waterfalls, great swimming holes, trout fishing and depending on your route, some great views. I've been twice and hope to do it again soon.
Much better than the Smokies. You won't run into a lot of people and a great opportunity for a lot of solitude.
Enjoy!
