Here's a picture of my short stand. From ground to top rail it's 4 feet. From ground to top of the stand, it's just over 5.

The use of the bar makes it easy to attach to anything that doesn't move(ie, tree)
You can use the stands or, 1 stand/another attachment point or, no stand (in between 2 cars or car/tree, etc.). Just remember to always attach the pole to whatever you use just as if using on the stand.
Using 1 stand and tree would be: stand on 1 side and other side is the pole on the side of tree using your tree hugger. The pole is connected to the hugger instead of the hinge. Like this: tree-->_O___________(stand)
Sorry for the crude attempt. I hope this helps.
Enjoy and have fun with your family, before they have fun without you
I did do a panoramic shot. That's why it looks like it has a bow to it.

For my first post to this great forum, I thought what better than a pic of my new TDS. Thank you to everyone that contributed to this design. I still need to add the leg limiter strings (para cord) and I'm going to change out the flat washers with larger washers but that's about it.
I made this stand for my wife and when she saw it she excitedly said, "oh cool!". I can't ask for much more than that.
