Are any suitable rings or buckles available at either Lowes or Home Depot?
Thanks.

Check climbing stores...they're called "descending rings" or "rappel rings." REI often has them. Haven't ever seen cinch buckles in a store, though.

IMPOSSIBLE JUST TAKES LONGER
I use some rings by National Hardware widely available at hardware departments. They are safe load rated at 300 pounds and run around $1. I don't think they perform as well as the SMC rings but they do fine. They are welded steel and so heavier than SMC. They are also smaller wire diameter so I don't think they grip quite as well. But they are cheap and seem to work well enuf for the use I give them.
I may be slow... But I sure am gimpy.

The hanger formly known as "hammock engineer".
Just came back from Lowes. They've got 1",1.5" (220lb) and a 2" (440lb).
Seemed a bit weighty.

I use these rings from Sling Ring
Go to MEC, they sell them quite cheap in their bulk section. The section has lots of bulk attachment devices, aswell as bulk cordage and webbing.
The ones i purchased from MEC weigh under 10 grams each.
MEC is Canada's version of REI.

I'm a newbie to this forum and this is my first post. So sorry if this is "old news." But I ordered some cinches, decending rings, etc. from http://www.onrope1.com/store/index.php These folks were great. The order was lighter than their stock shipping price. To my amazement, they emailed me to tell me that my shipping turned out to be less than the shopping cart calculated and they refunded the excess. Not much money... but good customer service.
Thanks for all the great posts from all of you. I have learned alot and enjoy this forum!
