I currently like and use the huggers. I use the one end to choke through around the tree and the other loop end I attach my whoopie directly to it.

That works great until the tree is too big, easily solved with extensions though.

One other thing on the tree huggers - the extra loop can prevent threading through certain types of hardware as well (i.e. Adutchable Clips), in which case a strap with one open end is the way to go.

That might not be true of the kevlar huggers - the strap is very thin compared to other materials, and it's difficult to finish the end without a fold because it doesn't melt. Dutch would be able to answer that question.

True. I always carry one long and one short just for that reason. I can usually make something work and have never had two massive trees at the same time where I couldn't move. I guess I just never got into the toggles. Has anyone tried the new Kevlar straps Dutch is selling? Feedback?

Hugger or strap they really are the same thing, usually just depends who you talk to and how you use and design them. I thought straps were longer and usually ~1" wide material where a hugger would be of 2" wide material and much shorter in length (3-6 feet) to transition to a line or rope to be kinder to the tree.
Never had a problem getting a loop through my hardware cause I know what I am buying and look at the design layout/specs before buying (or measure the image for proportions). If the openings in a buckle/adjuster are not large enough they get reassigned to a different use. But than again I design and build to my own needs, wants and specs not necessarily counting weight as I'm not hiking with the stuff and I prefer things with/for multiple applications to avoid redundancy.

If you go to any vendors site, huggers and straps are usually made from the same material. Some do offer 2" straps but 1" is the norm for most folks. I do agree that most of the hardware should accept a webbing loop.

I fit my dutch buckles onto huggers. I get huggers just because I see more options from one set of webbing.

Excellent point. I'd be interested to know this as well.
