Hello all,
I am wondering if anyone has any recommendations for a good cold weather top quilt. A kind of 3+ season deal.
Thanks,
DRF

What length are you looking for and down to what temp?

You could also request to overstuff a 20degree top quilt for a little more warmth.

I am 5'11" so i guess a regular lenght from what i see out there. as far as temp rating, I am not sure if i should go for the full 0 degree or the get a 20. I am concerned the the o degree will be too warm in early fall / late spring. while I love getting gear. She who must be obeyed, would kill me if I spend too much too fast.
Well don't rule out somethiing that is "too" warm. I have a -40 degree F bag that I use as a top quilt up to 60 degrees. I just have to vent alot. Probably down to 30's is when I do not have to vent. Also, if money is a problem you might want to roll with a light sleeping bag for a fraction of the cost. I am making my way to an EnLIGHTened Equipment quilt but $200+ is a scary price for a first time quilt user(me). Best of luck!
Hey DRF, are there any group hangs near you? Borrow a night's sleep...it's a great way to do a test run with no commitment.
In trying a TQ, I think you may find that it's venting ability plays a big part in comfort through a wider range of temps (vs. being zipped up in a sleeping bag.) You can try this with your own gear, just zip your bag to about your knees and give it a go in the backyard.
I understand what you mean about the $, it's nice to get as much functionality as possible with the least cost. I got my first TQ a few months ago, a 20 degree from Adam at Hammockgear. I had it made in 10D material; it's feel is so soft and buttery. Very warm and SO light.
But what fun it is to search for the perfect gear...enjoy your journey.

Any of the quilt makers will help you get what you need. I think if I was doing it again, I would ask for a little extra at the foot end. I always have a jacket, hat and gloves, but my feet seem to be colder.
My personal experience: I have a few quilts and my te-wa sets have worked quite well.
