I actually think it is a very important discussion if you dont like getting up in the middle of the night for a whiz!!
Anyone thats anyone hydrates which inevitably means it will want to come out at the coldest point of the night and sod that for a game of soldiers getting out of my pit!! hahahaha
I love elevation!!
Go,
Yes I agree SB Mike,
it is most definitely important to hydrate before going to sleep, I just choose to go for a Midnight hike when it comes time to download.
Besides it gives you a chance to observe the twinkling stars many times.
I have been a long time believer/user of the hot water bottle trick, it just makes good sense on so many levels.

New Nalgene bottles are BPA free. They also make a glow-in-the-dark bottle now that would be easy to find or "aim" for in the middle of the night.
Fanatic , my buddy does the Nalgene heater thing alot....I make tea at night when Im in the bush and I have noticed that my Nalgene stays very hot for about an hour and then it drops in warmth very slowly after that...my buddy will boil two bottles worth and put them low and high in his bag...it not only works by heating the blood flow but the ambient heat from the bottle itself heats the immediate (small) area.

i have done some experimenting with this though the winter.i started off with pouring boiled water in a nalgine throw it into my hammock 40 min before i go to bed and the radiance "primes" my hammock.
but then i bought a thermal cosey for my nalgine my outdoor research, and it keeps the water, warmer, longer, and doesn't burn the skin when you hold it.....plus it has a fancy shmancy belt loop

(sorry if his system was mentioned earler, didnt want to read though 255 posts)
In addition to the nalgene bottle with warm water in it , eat a snack right before bedtime. In the winter , your body is working fulltime to keep itself warm and thus burning a ton of calories .If you have a snack right before you climb in your body wont be trying so hard to regulate its core temp .I have actually been in (training) survival situations where we have eat a full and very filling meal 20 minutes before bed and not be able to get warm and wake up starving just from shivering and burning up good calories from doing so. I always eat something like a Starkist Tuna on the go meal kit right before lights out , its not very fattening.
Great post , very valuble info for the up and comers out there....SEMPER FI HF!!

I just joined this forum, but have been doing this for a while. It's amazing how much better you sleep with one of these. I put it down by my feet and wear my next day's wool socks so it doesn't burn me.
I usually use a plastic Nalgene, but went off-brand one time and it leaked all over. Not good...
I have a wife with cold feet so I think I'll give this a try for her. Thanks for posting it, testing it, and for all the other "its."

That which does not kill me has made a grave tactical error.
We discussed the recent BPA scare in my plastics engineering class. The issue was raised by a guy working on his doctorate thesis. His testing methods were very flawed, but the media picked the story up first. Scientist have retested his findings and the levels were in the very safe zone. BPA mimics estrogene but must be consumed in far greater quantities than a person could ever get from plastic drinkware.
Not to freak you out, but most plastics contain BPA or other estrogen-like chemicals. Think about your tupperware, food packaging, water storage, cups, etc.
