Just found Pedro's gallery; he's hanging from two ski poles!!
BF gave good advice for internet forums:
"Either write something worth reading or do something worth writing."
...and for hammock hangers:
"Fatigue is the best pillow."
...and AT hikers:
"He that rises late must trot all day."
...and Shug:
"The art of acting consists in keeping people from coughing."

You can hang from this overnight, caboyer! Search for my trip report from St. John, I used a folding version of that crutch.
Try hanging from where the single tube joins up with the other two tubes. It's a low hang, but doable. This also puts the crutch tip at a good height above the hammock to support your tarp.
Thanks for your trip report, pedro - too cool!
I'm also interested in your gearskin experience, if you ever get a chance to post some pics & insights in the DIY areas. TIA!

How about using something like this to hang from. Haven't tried it but just kind of thinking about various possibilities.
It's a sliding glass door bar that has a gravity lock. I've thought about ordering several of these to attempt an Aussie Anchor knock-off.
Here's a video of one I used (cut down from the stock 28" - 48" adjustability to about half that and loosing the bottom pivot foot) as a dirt-bike jack (so you can see how the gravity lock functions). This got me thinking it might could function as a lightweight hammock stand.
Today i set-up a "tree-less suspension". Used 4 branches, 6' each. Lashed them at the top('stockgrowers lash?), spread them approx 2' at the bottom, leaned them to approx 45 deg( \ / )angle. clipped hammock biners into lashing(paracord). /\_/\ (with anchor lines). sorry for the generic diagrams, gonna have to upload pics. More r&d tomorrow.
