    Back and hip pain

I had so much hip and back pain when sleeping on the ground I was afraid my backpacking days were over. I saw a fancy feast alcohol burner by Shug Emery. I clicked on his series of hammock videos on YouTube. I have been using hammocks and the pain is overcome.

    What made you a "hanger"?

Hey Shug what’s up? Huge fan of your YouTube channel buddy.

So I’m new to hangin, just got started this year actually. The past couple of summers me and some buddies do a week long canoe trip down Current River in southern Missouri. We canoe 55 miles of it from Baptist Camp near the head, to Two Rivers where the Jacks Fork meets it, camping on the banks as we go. Well last year I ground slept which was horribly uncomfortable on the rocky banks. This year I decided to try a hammock. I got a cheap amazon special bug net hammock, some daisy chain straps, and a bear butt fly, and off I went. Shoulda took the pad too but had a wool blanket to make it bearable. Anyway now I’m hooked! It was quite the learning experience(ripped the net out, had to figure out good hangs from uncomfortable ones, figure out sleeping position that worked, etc.) but I came back determined to learn how to do it better. Now I’m set to make my own hammock and tarp soon and gonna pick up some Whoopie Slings. Been watching a lot of YouTube videos and blogs out there and can’t wait for my next outing to hang again. I even set some eyelets out on my patio of my apartment to hang on when I’m home. Gonna play around with some ways to stay warm this winter. Possibly make my own sock or uq. Or just do a pad for a while idk. But thanks to all you guys for your insight on YouTube and on this blog. It’s helped me quite a bit.

I can relate to your story. The rock of the hammock reminds me of the 11 years I spent living aboard my 30ft Columbian. I still miss her. Maybe I should name my Hammock.

    Hey there
i am not a camper but i have been hanging for at least 5 months i jumped right into it. i was having alot of sleeping problems due to stress and back troubles. i was up most of the night tosssing and turning and at one point during all this i said enough other people felt about hammocks i was blown away and decided i am going to try it. i did not have much money and i needed a stand as well. everyone was raving about a vivere so i ordered one from amazon. came out to be about 120 all together. it was delivered and that night was the official night i ditched my bed and froze my butt off the first three nights. but inspite of that slept like a freakin baby i will never ever sleep in a bed again in fact i moved and left the darn thing in the trash.
one of the thngs i like and dont like is the learning curve and boy there is one. i fiddle with it all the time i tried pads i made my own under quilt i came up with a system where i can have a sheet and then how to get a down comforter stuffed on the bottom and still be comfortable and use a sheet to keep it there and not have my feet sticking up in the air tonight it was i need to get my head lower and raise my feet and still manage to be lay diagonal.
I know I have to upgrade the vivere is definatly to small I am not sure what sort it is I like so many for different reasons lol maybe by the time I have the money I will have made up my mind lol yea right I got the hammock bug all right.

As a avid hiker and amatuer photographer. I would sit in my tent with my camera and take shots of the scenes that only nature can provide. Tranquil and surreal at times. One time in paticular, I was taking shots of a waterfall on the Eagle Creek. I had to climb down off the trail a bit to get a perfect shot. It was at that point I met a girl named Samatha who was also there to take a few shots of the falls. We struck up a conversation, and at one point I remarked how this would be a nice place to camp if wasnt so rocky and overgrown. Thats when Sam showed me her Hennessy Hammock. There, stretch over the rocks and washed up debris. A floating tent. I was amazed by her and the concept of hammock camping.
Well, long story short. Sam and I have been married for 7 years. We have two daughters together. And we are still hanging. Thank you Hammock Campers.

After 2 near drownings on Cub Scout campouts in central Ohio in a cheap tent. I went to the local outdoor store for a real tent. To my dismay a real tent for 4 cost 600 bucks and we were still on the ground. Wasn't going to buy the tent, two cots and new bags and carry all that crap to the campouts. all in would have been 1000 +. They had a ENO set up on a backyard rig. I got in, almost fell asleep and bought one. went to Hennessy for a scout for the cub the rest is history ........
we now have 13 rigs between us and haven't slept on the ground in 10 years .......
