Another option here is to go to the paint department at your local home improvement store and get paint strainer bags. They are a fine mesh and seem to be pretty sturdy. You would have to sew in a drawstring but they work great. Here is one version: http://www.hardwareandtools.com/invt/u699522?ref=gbase
That's no different than making them from scratch. Still gotta sew in a draw string. Plus there is a little zipper pocket on the inside that you can not see for stashing biners, or stakes, or keys or what have you. If you are a fan of such things you could make it into a self-storage pocket for the stuff sack.

Some people don't want to make them from scratch. If so, this is another perfectly good way to get a mesh bag for little investment.
I just got a pnumeo dry bag and plan on using that as my main waterproofing, along with a pack cover. At 12oz for 65L drybag it was hard to pass up, thanks Slowhike for the suggestion. My plan to have everything else in mest stuff sacks but my hammock/quilts. They will still be in a sil bag. A lot easier to pack and deal with.
I'm planning on mesh inside the foodbag as well. Way easier.

What's hard about sil stuff sacks? I've never had problems packing them. What am I missing?
Trust nobody!
I think the appeal is that you can readily see the contents.
I'm with you, though. I use Sil stuff sacks, and I use a different color bag for each 'category' of things, always using the same color for those items. It didn't take long to associate those colors in my mind with certain items.
Even when I need to use drybags (kayaking or canoeing), I just split the sil bags up and pack them inside one or two larger drybags.
Maybe I'm missing something too, though.

That and sil is not waterproof as a stuff sack, at least to me. Too many issues with water leaking through. If it is going to leak through anyways I may as well make it easy to see and pack. Just my take.

You ain't missing anything. I got bored making sil-sacks and such and branched out. Sheesh a guy can't even brag now... competition is getting too tough. It's called cut me some slack and admire my mesh stuff sack already! I even put tags on this thread.
Maybe I'll just crawl back into my sewing man-cave.
edit:
Actually I do use these to keep my hammock and tarp under control oin my pack. The often end up crammed under the lid. Then I hang it from the suspension as a gear catch-all. But mostly that one in the pic was just a what can I sew today piece.

Not at all! I like the idea, I was just wondering what Coffee was talking about when he said sil sack were a pain.
I guess I didn't think about the visibility thing. Like angrysparrow, my stuff sacks are color coded so I never thought about it before. I just wanted to be sure I wasn't missin out on something.
Brag, brag, brag away! Love seeing new ideas.
