I had a nice car-camping overnight up at Hanging Rock State Park NC last night with DD1 and DD2. Besides swimming at the lake, I got to hike down with some friends to see some of the many beautiful waterfalls at the park. I posted some pics here.

was the water cold?
that's a nice park, but i hope you tested out one of the little fans that are being talked about. hot, hot, hot.
I too will something make and joy in it's making
I didn't get a chance to get a fan yet. The night was very nice. Got to mid-60's. I was extreeeemely comfortable.
The waterfall water was very cold and felt great in the 90+ heat. The lake, not so much... but still felt good (there were some cold spots now and then).

Thanks.
These days I'm trying to find and visit places close to home. I'm having fun exploring and I've found some pretty amazing scenery and places very close by.

I'm ashamed to say I own some property that you can actually see Hanging Rock in the distance and have never went there. Maybe next time I'm back in NC.Nice pics Patrick. Im ashamed to say that I live up the road from there and have never been. Its on the list. BD
it's a nice state park, w/ quite a few trails & stuff.
i'm glad to see that nc patrick & the others were able to hang their hammocks w/ no problems.
as far as i know, they still have a "backpacking" area, but you walk in on what seems to be an old logging road to sites A-F, & hike back out the same way.
nothing exciting, but maybe a decent place to try out some cold weather gear & not be to far from the car.
it's been a long time since i walked down that trail, but i learned some valuable lessons about using a plastic tube tent in an ice storm in my early backpacking days
