Found this site. Seems like an option. A couple of washers and the pogostick driver, should be ok with even the gram weenies, minus leaving a washer in the ground. Frozen tundra might be an issue.

I have my doubts about the rocky clay soils we have around here, as well. sometimes I use rebar, and just drive it flush when I'm done.

Still, very ingenious, and would be super on sand/gravel bars for the kayak/canoe crowd.

This could probably be made closer to LNT if you used some form of biodegradable washer and a natural fiber line. I'm thinking wooden or very-dense-cardboard washers and cotton or hemp lines might serve well enough for most of our purposes. We don't need to stop an ATV, just hold a percentage of body weight, combining this with a bipod or monopod setup...

There it might be reasonably removable with a little effort, I might just give this a try, we have a sand dune state park about 15 miles away, would make for a cool spot to hang but there is almost no usable trees.

A steel washer is biodegradable.

Pass the cord through the "rivet", and make your knots above grade...that way you can retrieve your cord when you're done.

It should work. It's a small version of the "dead man" anchors we used to make in beach sand when salvaging vessels. We used a heavy, buried timber, ran a line to a winch, and hauled away.

I don't know about Idaho but other states with sand dunes list them as protected areas. You might rather go to a pond or something to give it a try. If something buried deeply enough sand is almost immovable. It is very stable.

Did some testing with an all aluminum ultralight flavor of this concept of my own creation - had some good results (and some less than good). I was unable to retrieve one of my prototypes and was forced to dig it up (ugh).

How many people would be interested in something like this and how light would it have to be in order to be practical?

I wouldn't replace something I can use more than once (tent stake) with a consumable (trap anchor).

However, I think they are cool, and will probably use them in my 13' Scamp.

Instead of steel cable, use guy line cord.

Fixed eye splice on each end.

If the washer is buried 10", use 25" eye splice to eye splice.

Thread through eye in rivet, bury rivet and washer using driver.

That then leaves the guy line cord with 2 eye splices above ground. Tie off suspension to both eye splices.

When done, insert a stout stick through one eye splice and pull guy line cord free.

Rivet and washer left buried 10" under ground.

The only problem is getting a driver that doesn't weigh several lbs and is strong enough to driver washer and rivet.

This site shows a variety of disposable earth anchors. A variation on the pogo stick anchors uses the same washer and a fencing staple instead of a rivet.

The anchor is the problem. Most of these anchors are used by trappers, so weight of the driver isn't the same problem.
