I got kinda tired tying the approved Hennessy knots putting up my hammock, but I have an aversion to modifying systems that work (and a bad case of notbuyinganythingelse-itus). After taking a look around the the internet, I came across a single ring system. But because of my pre-existing condition, I looked a what I had on hand. So I came up with this.

It is a climbing rated carabiner (~$4 REI, I do a lot of rock climbing and had a few laying around) with three wraps and then fed though the tree strap and back through the wraps. The beauty of this is it allows me to easily position the hammock and adjust the tension without untying and retying the Hennessy knot, all without damaging the rope with. It slides along like a whoopie sling, take tension off and slide as needed.
Did not buy a descender ring, and as far as I see, don't need one as there is no stress on the carabiner itself, all gripping is done by the rope against the metal. Also the gate made wrapping the rope super simple. Easy on, easy off.
