I was looking through the ebay store that was posted last week and I came across this. It's a coated waterproof ripstop. So, is that pretty much silnylon? Thanks for your help.

Not Sil, it's a coated rip stop. I have a little bit of it I use for making stuff sacks with, and it's quite a bit thicker and heavier than Sil. Not to say you couldn't make a reasonable backpacking tarp with it. It just wouldn't be optimal. I plan to use 8 yards of that to finish up my full camo kayak camping setup.

I used it for a DiY tarp - others have too
left it in my yard for a day or 2 - it rained & all was dry underneath

In a torrent, I'd trust it much more than I would Sil. And it will certainly block the wind. In those two aspects it will be superior to Sil. But in all honesty I was comparing my Sil and his stuff just after I saw the thread, and yeah, the difference in a full size tarp will be ounces, and the difference in size packed will be minimal as well.
For making a digi camo tarp, I really see that as the only option unless you get digi camo ripstop and impregnate it with Sil yourself.
It's a really strong fabric and easy to work with. If you get it, you will certainly be satisfied.

You could always buy the guide gear tarp for $20... 12x12... cheaper than the fabric...

Though it wouldn't be that cool camo...

Fronkey, that is polyurethane coated.
I've used it before and it is tough, heavy and wont pack down as small as sil.
Careful with your design. This fabric stretches bad with cat cuts and basically means keep your cuts straight and square, running with the grains of the ripstop.
But it will make a waterproof/ windproof shelter and be a fun learning project.
Ambulo tua ambulo.
So, I need to make sure all my cuts are nice and square like in Super Tramps video and I should be good to go. I like the digi camo a lot and and that price it would be fun to make one out of that material. As long as it's windproof and waterproof, I don't mind a few extra oz to blend in with the outdoors a little better. Thanks a lot for your responses.

I've used PU coated tarps for quite a few years and that one looks kind of similar, it was the only option available over here until a few Sil started to appear a couple of years ago. Like Gargoyle said, it tough stuff and works well but it doesn't pack as small as Sil.
There can be issues with delamination a few months down the line on the cheaper stuff but how you test for that before you buy I don't know.

Link above to tarp made from that fabric. It is bomb proof but heavy. Weighs about 3oz sq yd finished weight. It weighed more than a pound more than the silnylon version I made with the same dimensions.
