Do you mean to use just the straps or use the ratchets with it? I would think that you wouldn't want to use the ratchets 'cause they're so heavy.
Since your new and all....your gonna have a bunch of queries.....
I did a video series that may answer some of them.
Might help ...might not.
Have fun.

spyder I am not sure I was asking what other peps use I am using slap straps right now cause I am not a knot person. Trying to figure things out.
Great option with no knots is decending rings, very easy and relatively cheap. Check out this video starting at around 1:17, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1f2Xts3Spsc
Rings at 5:50
I use a ratchet strap that I bought at Advance Auto as a tree strap. It is 13' long 1" polyester and I cut the big S hook off to save the loop on that end. Just use it with my dutch clip and I tied a loop on the open end using a double figure 8 knot.
See the JRB system came with 5' tree straps and the big oaks in my yard are a good 6' around. So i had to tie the JRB straps together and rather than order some more tree straps I hit the auto store down the street.
If you don't try due to fear of failure you've already failed due to fear.
