It's always best if your an early riser!
Dewey has been asking when we're getting back out there. I'm planning the "NC Balds Tour" for after July 4th weekend. Siler Bald on day 1, Wayah Bald on day 2, and Wesser Bald on day 3 with an out at NOC on day 4. It should be a good one!
If the July heat doesn't get too ferocious, I may even head south from Franklin and head on down to Springer before school starts back.
For now, Dewey will have to settle for a trip to Universal Studios. He's looking forward to meeting Shrek and seeing Hogwarts.
Hey man, im planning a cool three nighter out there at Carver's Gap to 19E. I am inquiring as to the avialability of hammock sites along the trail. is it more of a tent environment or is it possible to set up with my Hammock? I have been doing a little reading and vid watching at Carvers Gap and i cant deduce whethewr or not i should bring my tent or my hammock. it seems to be alot of open grassy areas with little place to be able to take shelter.
I just wanted to say that my 5yr old daughter enjoyed your adventure with Dewey. She is hoping that her adventure next weekend with her bears "Annabelle" and "Bob" will be just as wonderful and fun
Excellent report! Glad you both had a great trip. Dewey and I share a love of Krispy Kreme.

There are a number of decent to good sites where you can hammock.
There are a number of spots within a quarter mile of Stan Murray Shelter.
There are a few OK sites behind the barn at Overmountain. They are OK for hanging, but you'll want to cook in the flat open spaces near or in the shelter.
As you head down from the bald on Little Hump toward Bradley Gap, you will re-enter trees. You will see a diamond-shaped aluminum sign pointing down a blue-blaze trail toward water. Within sight of this sign is a nice single hammock site where you could hang.
Doll Flats is a large, gorgeous campsite where you could hang any number of hammocks.
Between these areas, you could have a wonderful pick of sites for a 3-day, 2-night hike from Carvers Gap to 19E.
Awesome. I'm sure it will be a great time.
Somebody once suggested that Dewey had become my "Wilson" (like the volleyball from Castaway), a way for me to cope with long hikes with no company. Dewey was highly offended, saying that Wilson was an airhead with a really bad haircut. Of course, Dewey can be a little highstrung sometimes.
I find having a little buddy makes every hike special. And as I've often mentioned, he's the one who reminds me to enjoy my hike when my type-A personality kicks in.
Thanks for another great trip report & pics!
As usual you make me wish I was out there too!!!

Great report! Getting me ready to launch the Mt. Rogers trip this week. Campin' in style... down by the wood pile! Love it.
