Instruction: Detatched Bugnet

I've been getting questions about how to make a bugnet for the DIY gathered end hammock. Based on the advice of Pedro and others I went with a weighted detached net. Basically it's like making a hex tarp out of noseeum material. Technically it's a octagon, due to the short sides at the ends of the ridgeline seam. You can put velcro on each edge of the 6" short sides to make the net easy to put on and off w/o taking the hammock down. I just sewed the 6" sides together with some grosgrain for reinforcement and left a space at the top to thread the suspension through. 5"x5" squares of the noseeum material are sewn to the four lower corners to create rock pockets. Just put a trail stone in each and the weight keeps the bugnet from blowing around and forms a pretty good seal everywhere the net and hammock meet. Thus far I haven't had any mosquito problems but I also treat my hammock and net with permethrin.

The dimensions shown may create a bugnet that's longer than you need, so reduce the length as necessary (take the same amount off both the ridgeline and bottom section lengths).
