Dry Q is an eVent product so nothing really new, just marketing spin. It will steam you up slightly less than Gore-tex.

Actually BackPackingLight.com just finished a series on WPB fabrics and even though this jacket is an eVent product renamed, the actual trail tests measuring temp and humidity inside and outside the jacket during different kinds of hiking (real world tests in other words) showed that DryQ was really no better than Gore-Tex. Another eVent jacket (Montane Specktr Smock) that they test was definitely better than Gore-Tex, but it was a much lighter version of eVent. So maybe the heavier eVent fabrics like DryQ are not really "raising the bar."

That was a great article. Probably the best I've ever seen on WPB for the real world. The take home message from the article was that, in spite of all the hype from the marketing folks, there are no miracle fabrics, yet. Some versions of eVent do better than GoreTex, but not all. And venting of the jacket is important (pit zips, front zip, etc) for all of them. Kind of stuff we knew all along.

I know, great article. The kind that makes me glad I pay for a membership over there. That article alone saved me who knows how many dollars.
