Underquilt for Kid Hammock using Primaloft One:
Hammocks built to 75" x 42" before Whipping and Hemming. Make from 1.9oz RipStop for extra durability... because they are boys. I might try 1.1oz later, if they can keep these from tearing. Trying to build a solid all season style quilt system for them from Primaloft, as I want to keep the cost down. I don't know yet how much they will use them or not.
I've not built anything before in this size, so there will be a lot of experimenting. I am building two seperate sleep systems, as there are 2 boys. So a total of 4 quilts needed. (I'm open to ideas, or trying 2 methods if people have any ideas out there.)
My plan is for a 60" by 41" quilt to cover them fully. 60" being the width of the fabric purchase, and subject to being shortened as the fabric dictates. The total fabric size leads to a project of 1.9 yd sq. per quilt.

According to BillyBob58's calculations:
A rule of thumb that some go by is: for a well sealed sleeping bag a CLO of 2=40F, 4=20F, 6= 0F.
CLO Rating for Primaloft One is .84 CLO / 1oz / 1yd sq.
I can get both 3oz and 5oz weight from Seattle Fabrics (locally). http://www.seattlefabrics.com/products.html#Fabrics
So the options are 3oz, 5oz, 6oz, 8oz, 9oz, or 10 oz. One Sheet, two sheet, or three sheets.
CLO / oz/yd sq/temp /1.9oz (project weight)
.84 / 1 / 1 / n/a / n/a
2.52/ 3 / 1 / 35 / 5.7oz
4.20/ 5 / 1 / 20 / 9.5oz
5.04/ 6 / 1 / 10 / 11.4oz
6.72/ 8 / 1 / -7 / 15.2oz
7.56/ 9 / 1 / -15 / 17.1oz
8.40/ 10/ 1 / -25 / 19oz
I'm guessing deminishing returns show up well before 0 degrees, but 6 oz of Primaloft One should get them to below freezing if needed. Maybe a 5oz single sheet would be a good idea to reduce potential errors in quilting.
So weights:
2x 1.1oz RipStop shell x 1.9 yards of fabric = 4.18 oz
5oz Primaloft is 9.5 oz so total weight is 13.68
6oz Primaloft is 11.4 oz so total weight is 15.58
This is before thread, grosgain, cordage and cordlocks. I think they can handle 2 lbs of Quilts with no problem.
Would there be any benefit to adding an outside layer of Insultex to the bottom quilt for added wind resistance, and a little lightweight warmth? It would only add .8 oz to the weight, but the downside is that I would have to wait to have it arrive before starting. Just not sure if 1 layer by itself would do much good.
And is the extra 1oz of insulation worth the extra price per yard I wonder? 5 oz is $14.95/yd. 2x 3oz is $23.90.
Rough estimate of price:
2.3 yards of 1.1 ripstop @ $9.25/yd (can get this much cheaper online) $21.25
1.2 yards of 5oz Primaloft @ $15.95/yd $19.14 +$21.25 = $40.39
2.4 yards of 3oz Primaloft @ $11.95/yd $28.68 +$21.25 = $49.93
That is per quilt. Not including grosgain, cordage, or toggles that will run another $5-10 per side.
I should have bought more tickets for the lottery.
