I've got a simple solution, splice the Knotty Not into the core of the free end of the line, then fold it back onto the line before wrapping the other line around it.
In the picture the white line is the end of the line that would normally hang loose with the orange and black lines being the normal straight and wrapped parts of the line.
Knotty Not should not get lost this way.
Yea! The Knotmeister does it again! Think it will work with Dynaglide? That's great!
OK the new and improved Knotty Not is way cool. Seems there are at least 2 setup options now. Can use it whoopie style or ucr style. I can't see any advantage for either in ease of set up as with both you have to hold the free end while you wrap the Knotty Not which should be a simple process.
With the whoopie style you only need 1 fixed eye but you loose the drip ring function when the Knotty Not is adjusted away from the hammock. You also retain having your suspension as a 2 part setup. The SRS which is attached to the hammock, and the tree hugger.
With the ucr style you need two fixed eyes. One at the hammock and one at the tree hugger. Not sure how this would impact the min hanging distance. You would however retain the drip ring effect at all times. The ucr style would be a 3 part setup. The short line with the Knotty Not attached to the hammock, and the free line that attaches the Knotty Not to the tree hugger and then the tree hugger itself. This could be converted back to a 2 piece system but that would involve tying or looping the free end to the Knotty Not end which could raise some ease of use issues.
Now I feel compelled to try both to see which is better. I do not think we are any closer to a one size fits all suspension but these are some way cool options.

The opinions expressed by this user are not those of a competent individual. If they were that would mean I know what I am talking about.
I think ill go back to the UCR. I like having the ring @ the end of the hammock. It provides a drip point & attachment point for the SRL.
The UCR for suspension is simple, uses less material than a woopie.
When I saw the latest Knotty invention there I thought the shape was familiar...
But when I was at Lowes I found a stick of aluminum rod, 1/4" x 3' for $4. I think a piece of that will work pretty well.
Some say I'm apathetic, but I don't care. - Randy
The first one I made was from an aluminum tent stake. I made four more from an aluminum rod I had around. Probably 1/4" diameter. I'll measure it when I remember.
The bends are made after heating the rod with a propane torch, using pliers. The key is to get it hot enough. When you reach the right temp the rod will bend fairly easily. Once formed, I dip the hot metal into a pot of water to harden it. Not sure if this necessary or not but I didn't want them to slowly become deformed by the load on the lines.
I've been hanging from them for a few nights but that hardly qualifies as safety testing. Wish I had the testing resources to see how these affect line strength.
