I had a thought yesterday, and I would appreciate some rough feedback before moving forward with it. I apologize if this has already been discussed; I didn't find anything when I searched.

I want something with the rigidity of a pipe stand, but the weight of an aluminum stand, and I don't want to have to screw anything together. Chain link fence fittings don't look trustworthy to me, but then I stumbled on canopy fittings, which are designed (some of them anyway) to use aluminum top rails. They're also welded, so it seems like they will hold up much better than the bolt-on fence hardware. Here's the particular piece I'm looking at:

I'm not looking for in-depth analysis, just any fatal flaws in the premise that I'm not seeing.
