Bugs are going to be bad anywhere north in June, however; I think bugs are overrated. Most times they are worst at dusk, once dark, one can enjoy being out. Permethrin helps, nets help, bugs are just part of the deal. So many things are peaking in June in terms of growth and blooms. My favortie in northern lower Michigan are wild iris. They are simply breath taking.
Go where ever you want to go, deal with the bugs, enjoy the longest days of the year. I am envious, June is a busy month for me and getting out will be difficult. I do have a three day canoe trip planned. Bugs ahoy!!

I'm about to do 3 days in Damascus, VA, followed by six days in the Gorge.
In June, you could stay low and hike the entire Linville River Trail.

The Foothills Trail is still pretty nice in June.
80 miles in 10 days.
You'll have several opportunities to take a dip in the cold and clear water of Lake Jocassee and make sure one day is spent on the Chatooga.

I'm drawn to the open country. Its where the world makes the most sense. When I put myself out there I always return with something new.
I'd go to Yellowstone, my favorite place on earth

Baxter Park in Maine opens to hikers in June. 100 mile wilderness is a winner. Plus not so wild if you need resupplying.

I do not read advertisements. I would spend all of my time wanting things.

Probably not as bug free as you are wanting but I would consider the Ozark Highland Trail http://www.hikearkansas.com/oht_map.html or Ouachita National Trail http://www.fs.usda.gov/Internet/FSE_...sm9_039449.pdf. I have not hiked either of these trails but have done many day hikes in the area. It is beautiful there. Also close to me, so for me that's a plus.
Well i think this thread is probably about hiking in the lower 48 but something that i would think of would be paddling in the Broughton Archipelago off the BC main coast using the Paddlers Inn as a home base and doing day trips through the local islands park. The other would be doing the Broken Group Is. on West Vancouver Is. If it was hiking maybe the West Coast Trail on Vancouver Is. Mmmm,,maybe i should buy lottery tickets.
