Spraying things with camp dry tends to change their texture, make them darker, and have an odor. Although, the odor is only noticeable if you put your nose right up to the treated object. But yes, it will help keep melting snow slight sprinkles of rain, etc, off. However there is a price to pay...

Nikwax TX direct spray will add some water resistance but won't alter the colour.
I have a down jacket that lost its dwr through lots of washing, the TX direct has done a better job than the factory dwr did. Its no miracle cure but will make a big difference.
Yea I knew that I have used many a time on various things, boots, tents, packs, work wear, just didn't know if it would hurt the down
cool I saw this somewhere online but can't remember where. the jacks sell ReviveX water repellant but I don't know if it will hurt the down.
I guess anything would work as long as I don't soak the shell through

Basically, yes. I don't know your US brands (although I know Nikwax ship to the US).
Nikwax TX direct is a parafin wax emulsion with zirconium salts-lots of companies in the world make similar water based waterproofers.
FWIW, I found that silicone sprays don't work as well.
