I agree! Or some of her favorite candy whatever it may be. My wife also likes her coffee! I always try to make her as comfortable as I can (which isn't too hard) I learned pretty quickly that my wife needs alot more insulation than I do and keeping her warm is happiness! better to have too much and it can be vented. My wife is now hooked too!M&M's.
Ditto on taking on the camp chores and letting her just enjoy. I did this with my wife while tent camping. She would sit and read (her favorite activity) and enjoy being outdoors. She is also a fair-weather only camper so I always checked the weather reports and only took her out on good weather weekends. We are both old, so don't get any wrong ideas on the next part: she has a friend (widowed) she loves spending time with and invited her along. Extra work for me setting up camp and cooking and such but it was fun watching them enjoy camping. They are both very bright and have good senses of humor so the campfire conversation was entertaining. They wound up planning the camping trips and would make the reservations. I had no trouble getting a camping trip going with them.
I can relate to this thread.
I've recently talked Mrs Dogstar into trying out hammocks. The main priority is warmth, if she's cold she wont enjoy it, so insulation is a must. Wine is a good idea, but not too much! You don't want the perpendicular swinging motion of the hammock to accentuate the gentle head spinning of a well wined spouse.
Other than that I think Roche covered all the bases, especially the M&M.
Have a great trip!
Keeping clean and cool (warm wheather camper) is my wifes big thing.
So hady-wipes for face hands/feet and a good hat.

Tortoise never for a moment stopped, but went on with a slow but steady pace straight to the end of the course.

Serve coffee in bed
Provide privacy for clothes changing.
If you notice her struggling with the hike, sneak heavier items from her pack to yours when you stop for a break.
(during a water refill works good as her pack weight will increase with the new batch of water but will be lighter overall)
Helps her be successful and her feeling of accomplishment isn't dimminished.
That *is* quite a title. Then followed with comments on bottom insulation
Like any good experiment, only introduce one variable at a time I would car camp with the hammock first. You know how tough she is physically, but doing the backpack thing AND the hammock thing might burn her out. Then again, we all know the hammock beats sleeping on the ground! If she is freaked by bugs and creepy-crawlies, the hammock is a done deal.
If it works, it should make all kinds of budgetary excuses
I'm lucky in that my wife was a very experienced backpacker before we met--- traversed the Olympics and did the Wonderland Trail--- stuff like that. She took to sea kayaks in a heartbeat. I plan to get her to try a hammock soon.
Thanks for all the tips. I had a snarky comment about bottom insulation, but thought better of it. Use your imagination.
I hadn't thought about hand wipes and her needing lots more insulation. Surprised that there's such a thing as TOO MUCH wine.....
Maybe I'll have her proofread my threads before publishing next time. I was thinking along the lines of "The Diary of Our 1st Time" for the trip report. Maybe not?
