Best storage sack material for TQ or UQ

I just received a new UQ from Enlightened Equipment. It came with a sil-nylon storage sack. When I bought an UQ from them years ago it came with an untreated breathable nylon storage sack. I emailed them asking why they've gone with a non-breathable material and if they think it'd be fine in areas with higher humidity/moisture. They said it's fine and reminded me to never store a quilt when wet.....sigh....yes i know that.

What do you think? Is sil-nylon perfectly fine even though it doesn't allow air flow? Especially in humid areas? My concern is trapping that humidity in the bag and causing mold to develop.

    Thanks.

I pack mine in silnylon stuff sacks for the trail. At home my quilts hang free.

I typically use sil stuff sacks as well when I'm out. As long as you aren't storing the quilts in the sil sacks, mold isn't likely to develop in the short time you'd have them stored while out.
I'm not very familiar with EE's products, so I'm not positive if the "storage" sack you mention is a stuff sack or one of the very large storage sacks for extended storage. If it were the latter, I might be hesitant to keep them stored in an non-breathable/sil sack.
On the other hand, I've never had issues keeping my quilts stored in large plastic tubs in our high humidity area. They're always put away aired out and I make sure they're fully dry. I recently started keeping some color changing desicant packages in the tubs just in case.
I've since transitioned my down quilts into large breathable storage sacks, but even when they were tubbed, I never had an issue.

Yeah, i'm talking about a large storage sack when kept at home....not the stuff sack used when backpacking. I definitely make sure my quilts are first fully dry and aired out, but its level of dryness is going to be relative to the surrounding humidity. So that's why i personally think breathability would be important. But i also have never kept a quilt stored in something non-breathable before, so i have no personal experience yet as to whether it'll be a problem or not.

    Just a note:
The large cotton HG storage bags were given out, FREE, at the fall MAHHA. I like that.
Somehow, this kind of generosity endeared Patti and I to Mr. Gear (Adam).
We will certainly find ways to thank him through our patronage.

I get laundry sacks at the $1 store, they have a draw cord top that I can close or leave open and they are big.

Same here. Failing that, a garbage bag with draw strings.

EE was nice enough to let me exchange the silnylon storage sacks i original received with untreated nylon ones. i could be wrong, but i still think some breathability in a humid environment is a good thing.

You could always store your UQ in an old pillow case. Or Hammock Gear sells cotton storage sacks for around $15 I believe.

UGQ storage sacks are oversized, plenty of room and you can see through to tell which quilt is inside.
