    One idea and a question.

Idea: Instead of hanging the continuous loop or something from the top of the tripod, one could just wrap a loop around the tripod (below the place where the three poles join) and set the ridgepole on top of that. VERY easy. Just not sure that the poles can handle the stresses associated therewith (safer to drop the continuous loop or something down from the joining area).
This stand is very tall as it is. The poles can handle the stress, but I need a loop drop just to get the ridge pole low enough to work with!

What's the best thing to use to protect indoor floors and to prevent the thing from sinking in too terribly much in soft outdoor soil?
Dang thing's too big for indoors unless you live in a gymnasium!

Seriously don't have an answer for this. I don't have mine capped but it is only used outdoors in my yard.

I still think the original TL lashing is the ultimate method. The others simply added difficulty to construction and additional weight for zero benefits. I'm probably alone in this thinking. (Keep in mind that I do really like the Agfadoc/Artjrk method.)

Side loading could become an issue if the attachment point was low enough. Also, the continuous loop allows for quick height adjustment of the ridgepole by making (or removing) wraps of the loop around the pole. This seems to be more important with the long legs of the mil surplus aluminum stands when switching from a bridge hammock to a short gathered end to a long gathered end. It can be very helpful in maintaining a uniform "sit" height.

Question: What's the best thing that folks have found to cap off the bottom of the tripod?...

Indoors, I place 4" square carpet scraps under the legs. Outdoors, nothing....but I don't set up in mud either. Others have use an expandable plumber's pipe plug outdoors.

    Aluminum Poles Deformed in Tripod?

It looks like the poles may be dented (about a half inch to the right of the bolt). Is this just an optical illusion -- or are the stresses here too much for the aluminum poles to handle?

Has anybody else had any problems with their aluminum poles deforming in TurtleLady-like stands?

Would you be able to do a three tripod triangle arrangement and hang three hammocks?
