When the temps drop below 70 degrees the cooler air underneath the hammock will suck the heat away from you resulting in what is known as CBS or Cold Back Syndrome. To prevent it you need some sort of insulation under you such as a CCF pad or UQ. Most times if you try and use a sleeping bag as a sleeping bag, the bottom layer is comressed enough that it offers little if any insulation value. Many hangers (including myself) use their sleeping bags a TQ.

What is the low temp that the CCF pad will protect you from CBS?

from personal use, I believe down to roughly 50 with a top quilt, but I tend not to use the wmccf pad much. I gave mine away to my twin brother. I have not YET converted him to hammocking though

    I will try harder

I hit 40 with my Wally CCF and 30 degree bag. I probably could have done 30. Just depends on how you sleep!

    Another noob chiming in.

Here is what I'm planning on using for a motorcycle trip. Expected low temps- 30+

    HH Expedition Asym
    Space blanket
Big Agnes inflatable pad- very little air
    me
    20 degree bag for TQ

Will that do the job or should I switch the BA for a thermarest or a pad?

Should I bring a fleece blanket for between the hammock and my pad?

Should the spaceblanket go inside the bag like a sheet?

    I am a warm sleeper.
