Temp range - Deep Jungle + Radiant Pad

I've got the Deep Jungle, with the Radiant Pad.

I'll be off for a week of backpacking with my son's Boy Scout Troop later this summer. We've been advised to expect night time lows as low as 55 degrees.

Assuming a reasonable sleeping bag for the temperature range, would the stock HH radiant pad be likely to keep me warm enough on the bottom side? Or, do I need to worry about some other kind of insulation in the bottom pocket. I'd like to avoid taking my Thermarest. If I really needed something more, I'd probably leave the radiant pad at home, and carry a closed cell foam pad.

The radiant pad is nice and light, so I'm hoping that will do the trick.

I would say yes. ive gone below 50 with just the hennessy underpad and no undercover. just make sure you have the appropriate topquilt/sleepingbag
Dale Gribble: I'm thinking, "new hammock." For me, laying and swaying in a hammock is like a steady morphine drip without the risk of renal failure.

Randy : yea but just remember yer roots and where ya come from....you got Hennessy in yer blood son......

NewtonGT - by underpad are you referring to the SuperShelter?

If you don't have time to experiment I'd pack a shoulder to butt length of CCF. Comfort (temp wise) level is a personal thing, then throw in wind or rain...

That reflectix pad would feel real heavy in the pack with a case of CBS.

I wouldn't go any lower than 40 with it. If I were to go lower I would want a tarp with doors.

    Roche said it perfectly...

yes the supershelter underpad. but I dont use the undercover in the summer. and yes I know that the undercover traps the air and creates the heat but I just need a little bit like the pad in the summer.

I think HH claims 40F for it? They used to claim 20 for it, until I e-mailed them some questions about that. After that, they changed it to 40F.

I've used just the reflectix pad and a zero degree sleeping bag down to about 15 degrees. That was in the back yard without a real wind issue, but I was warm. You should be plenty warm with just the reflectix and a good bag.

    Thanks for the feedback

I was asking about the radiant bubble pad that is currently included as a freebee with the deep jungle.
    http://hennessyhammock.com/catalog/p...bubble_pad-xl/

NOT the underpad that is part of the supershelter system.

I have the Deep Jungle, so the radiant bubble pad will be in the double bottom pocket, rather than inside the hammock.

I'll be hiking with a 40 degree bag, so warmer than the expected low of 55 degrees. So my bag should be plenty warm. Just concerned about whether the radiant bubble pad will likely be enough under me for the likely lowest temps of 55.

    Thanks for the advice all.
