Hammock, Quilt, & Tarp Comparison Chart

Thread is being closed per OP request. He is in process of removing the spreadsheet as it is out of date and he does not intend to update it. - edited per dkurfiss at OP request 2/27/2016

I setup a Google Spreadsheet listing some of the more popular hammocks available.

Feel free to edit and add your favorite if not listed. Also, if you see anything missing or is incorrect feel free to correct. Information was taken from manufacturer's websites whenever possible.

Now I see what everyone is excited about with the WB Blackbird over Hennessey. More space and less weight. What else for those of us that are not paying attention?

Shelf, flatness of lay, customer service, webbing option, side-entry, ability to throw bug net over ridgeline, and of course....the cool kid factor.
Probably more, just off the top of my head; where my hair used to be.

Nice job. Thanks for the info - this is a great quick check reference. It will save a lot of going back and forth between websites. And the tarp comparison is at ??? ! (Don't you hate it when you do something well and everyone assumes you're going to keep doing more?)

A tarp comparison is a great idea! I was just as confused (probably more so) about tarps as I was about hammocks when I was getting started.
Careful about good ideas, usually it's the person that thinks of it that is expected to do it.

    Mrprez,

There is a lot of apples to oranges here...

For example, the depiction of functional HH hang length and WB cut length..... Point in fact, most HH ( Exped, BULA, HL, ELR) are all 100 inch ridge lines and WBBB is 101 inches.

If you decide to standardize on ridgeline length or normal ridgeline approximation, the JRB BMBH should be 9ft 3 inches, the distance between the primary rings....Width varies from 56-34 inches.

If you want to make the chart more useful I recommend adding a number of fields to capture characteristics...bug net, removable bug net, fixed bug net, top loader, side loader, bottom loader, pad pocket/double bottom, personal gear pocket/shelf etc....

As the old saying goes, "The Devil is in the details".

    Nice start.

Thanks for the input. It is a start. No doubt it can be made better. The dimensions are what I could find on the individual website and there is little information as to ridgeline lengths. The info about the bugnet would be a good idea too. Pretty easy to update that.

The spreadsheet is editable by anyone but if there are other ideas, I am open to incorporating them.
