clear or black 4S Cuben Tarp???

Spoke to Adam today about my upcoming tarp order. Ive been juggling either a black or clear cuben.

So to those that have either. Whats the pros/cons if any. Is one version better in a perticular season? Does either cause a greenhouse effect or too much light at night?

What would you have done different as far as style? Are the pullouts necessary? What about the cat cuts?

I asked about a wider tarp to help with my height when pitched lower to ground. But fabric size limits them. So with the 8.5' width, how well are you taller folks blocking the wind not being able to pitch that low, figured it would put your underquilt in the ground.

    Appreciate any thoughts!

I like looking through mine. Sun can be bright coming through but I walk most of the time so no problem. Nothing is perfect. Night is wonderful through the tarp. I feel connected to nature.
Don't use the pullouts as much as I thought since you can pitch the cuben very taut.
I have no problem with the pitch.

+1 for Shug. I really like my clear silvery colored tarp. It grew on my in about 3 seconds.

I have the silvery color too, don't really have much of a preference on color, don't use the side pulls a great deal but they are nice on occasion. On width, yes it is a bit challenging to get everything arranged just right when you're trying to get a very low pitch but it can be done. It takes some trail and error but once you get it, you'll be able to repeat it easily.

I've played around with some not traditional tarp setups trying to get low pitches; off center, leeward end high, etc. to make entry exit easier. You'll learn more in an afternoon in your backyard experimenting than a whole bunch of reading.

Have fun, welcome to the cuben addiction,

    David

I went with black, but it's more gray than anything (I hear). I'll be getting my cuben tarp in over the next few days, but I want some privacy.

I also agree with Shug! Russ and I both have the opaque tarps and we love seeing the moon rise through our tarps and stars peep out. It really is that connection with nature. I thought it would be a problem at first, but came to realize it's an asset.

    Opaque for deep sleepers!

Shug, another entertaining & informative video. Thanks!

One "problem" I have with sleeping in a hammock vs. the opposite issue when grounded is oversleeping. Maybe more intense morning light penetrating through an opaque tarp will get my butt up & out of the hammock?

    Change of terminology needed...

I received my new tarp and will post some pictures when I return home after this trip, but the black nice. I like it. If the tarp is set up in the sun it is reflective and almost silver. There is not a lot of privacy with the tarp, but I guess that's alright.
