Trail names usually come from the trail. They should be organic and spontaneous. I took my son out for a hike with a friend of mine who eats nasty, past-their-expiration MREs. I said to my friend, "How do you eat that crap that has far exceeded its shelf life?"

My son said, "What is shelf life?" And a trail name was born - my son's trail name is Shelf Life. It's a great trail name, shared by one of Zippy the Pinhead's best friends.

My friend's trail name (selected by me) is KYBob. He couldn't for the life of him figure out how to milk the bury on a whoopie sling - until he tried KY Jelly to make it more slippery. He is now KYBob.

Those are some great trail names Silver! I've had her out on the trail before but nothing has ever really surfaced on a name. She's a ginger like good 'ol Shug and stormcrow, maybe something on that line. Anyhoo, let me know what you are planning on for the carpool thing from Gathland. The other question I had regarded the hike. Do you know what the water situation is up in those parts of the AT? just was curious for planning purposes.

When I looked last, the water situation was good. I'll have to go back and research that.

Don't worry - I'm an expert at finding trail names. If you know someone doesn't have a trail name, you hinge on every word, every action, looking for a way to assign a trail name. When everyone on the hike is attuned to the fact that someone doesn't have a trail name, it happens pretty quickly.

I got my trail name hiking in Europe - it happened so fast that I went from Craig to SilvrSurfr - in a couple of days nobody knew my real name. The guy who gave me my trail name was named Pete the Feet - he hiked barefoot.

Roger that. I figured that plentiful water would be the case but I had to ask. I did a rough satellite look over via google maps and saw that our 30ish miles crossed 6 or so rivers, so I think we'll be good. If she doesn't have a trail name after our hike, I guess I can broadcast it to the rest of the group

There's still time for folks to join us on a SOBO. I'm committed to a SOBO (especially if you and the wife are). I don't like to repeat section hikes of the AT I've already done.

However, I might consider a switch to a NOBO if we don't get more participants. Hiking with TwoTents, WV, SweetBabyD, MML and BlackWolf is a lot of fun.

No trail name. We can fix that. She looks like a tiny little thing. How about Sweet-n-low?
I like refried beans. That's why I wanna try fried beans, because maybe they're just as good and we're just wasting time. You don't have to fry them again after all.

Haha that works on so many levels you have no idea. We'll see what happens on the trail. That's always a great backup!!!!!

I will be joining the SOBO prehike.

Will get in touch with you all, when I return from a camping trip next week.

My hiking buddy, BobO / Scout78, will not be joining us.
He has some medical things to attend to.

Laughingly, asked my husband, Arthur, if he wanted to join us.
Laughing, he said no (What was I thinking ? ).

Expect to drive to Harrisburg PA, the day before, to get to the starting point, Pen Mar early the next AM, Wednesday, 17 October.

What are the plans for parking? I would prefer to leave my miniVan at the end, Gathland.
Then take the other driver back to their car, Friday, 19 October.
    Yet I am flexible.

What are your ideas, SilvrSurfr ? Living the HighLife ?
