Dealing with noise at night

Night sounds actually lull me to sleep, with the best of all being a fast running stream very near where I have hung my hammock. No, no ear plugs for me.

I've slept for 7-8 nights every Aug for the past 10 yrs at the Buffalo Chip campground in Sturgis.....if you can sleep through that, you can sleep through anything. Good thing too as I too snore like a buzz saw, but I warn those camping near me so they can't say they weren't warned

Zim, I about died reading your post. What ever possessed you to eat your loose ear plug?

For myself, I bring ear plugs on every trip. Whether camping or staying at a hotel. Being a light sleeper, I wake at the slightest sound. Having the ear plugs allows my tinnitus to lull me to sleep. I also sleep much more deeply with ear plugs. Now that I am a hanger, I setup away from everyone else AND use the plugs. The world could end and I would never hear it. ...

Ear plugs are light and cheap insurance for a good night's sleep... Even something like a raccoon or an armidillo sounds huge in the woods at night and can ruin that precious sleep...

At home, yes. Hanging some where in city limits, yes. Out in the woods away from everything, no. If my hubby were hanging near me...no matter where I'm at, yes.

I struggle bad in the backyard. If it's not the dogs in the neighborhood behind mine it's mine or my neighbor's AC kicking in. Or the motorcycles screaming down the road (still loud even though I'm about 1/2 mile off the road). Or the fire trucks responding to a call. Sometimes ear plugs work but most of the time they just bug me and I end up throwing in the towel and going back inside.

I don't use them at home in the woods. When out camping I always have them but haven't used them yet.

I have two silicone type ear plugs, in a soda-bottle cap holder I made. I use them. Push in, dulls most of the noise.

No ear plugs for me. I want to hear what the world is doing. On most of our group hangs we manage to spread out enough that the snoring isn't objectionable though I have been told that I can get loud. Thankfully in the hammock even snap sleeping, short deep sleeps, is adequate for my needs. My most irratiating noise have been the crows in the early AM. It seems that they want to let everyone know it's time to be up and about. Over the years it is amazing how you learn the sounds of the animals in the woods. The soft rustle of the wee ones, the mice, voles & shrews. The short choppy cautious steps of a deer. The boisterous mobbing of the feral hogs who can't be quite if they wanted to. To the unknown night bird who was upset about our invading it's territory. But then I can't hang in the backyard because of the nightclubs within 150 yds and the ambulance service 1/2 mi down the road.
