Her first time overnight in a hammock

my girlfriend's first night out in a hammock last night. she was in my switchback dbl using reflectix with taped on ccf pad extender for shoulders and hip and an old semi compressed open cell foam. she used my wiggy's -40 bag and her long merino wool base layer. wasn't that cold, 5F with wind chill to add, maybe -2F*. no tarps were on us(I was in my thunderbird with TQ and UQ.) beautiful night. hers was over kill but didn't want her cold, and it worked, she was up at 630 this AM too warm and sweaty. she liked it and is now thinking once she buys her hammock(she is thinking thunderbird as well for summer winter duality and ease of setup with cinch buckles) next time she gets to use the quilts so she can tell the difference.

Great job of introducing your lady to the joys of Hanging. It sounds like you picked the right type of gal and you did everything in a thoughtful manner. You were close to home, in case she hated sleeping out, you had planned her gear so you were sure she would be warm.

What I really like is you did not try to share a hammock, I think people are crazy to want to get a new potential Hanger to share their hammock with them. Two people one hammock great for a snuggle all night, just too much togetherness. Just my opinion, I am sure someplace some couple is thrilled with the idea.

Obviously you are a thoughtful person and made every effort to assure your ladies comfort. Congratulations on an introduction well done.

I know that we are on different end of the north American continent but 5F is cold! Better lock that lady down, she's a keeper.

That is awesome!!! The first trip I took my wife on, the next morning she asked for just 30 more minutes of sleep and immediately followed with "how can we hang this in our bedroom" She cant wait to go back. Unfortunately, we still don't hang full time, but I am working on it! Great job making sure she was comfortable!

after this winter, this was the warmest and even better, clear night, we have had since November. December was -4f to -40f, January was the same. February we had warmer days....kinda but when the sun dropped, so did the temp. and windy to add wind chill warnings for almost 2 months this winter !!! every where got it (kinda, 5f is cold to some, we are out in tshirts for short times in that up here) with the week in the teens(F*) this feels like paradise. with 4-5 feet of snow. or more where places were shovelled.
I have been looking for a high enough snow bank to trench out and hang up the middle. use it as a wind block so when I wake up it is like planet Hoth.
