"Closed" dutch clip.

So, I'm looking at my webbing.

I'm looking at my carabiners. My carabiners are too heavy.

I'm looking at dutch clips. Dutch clips seem easily lost.

Yes, I know you can tie dutch clips to the webbing, but it seems like there's a better way to do this.

Is there such a thing as a dutch clip that is closed on one side so that it just stays on the webbing?

Seems that, if there isn't, there should be.

Given the structure of a closed loop, the closed side could probably be made with fewer reinforcements too, might actually save weight.

how come you don't just use the current but sew the strap on tight so it doesn't release? i assume you're making your own or if you bought some you can just run a needle and thread to tighten down the current loop

The dutch clips I received a couple of weeks ago were different than any I have seen online. The one side has a narrow slot for the webbing loop to go through and I don't think that I will be able to remove the webbing without cutting it once it is in place. I hope this helps.

That's exactly what I had in mind, except that the open end would just go through the loop. Where'd you get them?

I ordered them from Jacks R Better. The image on the site is not the same as what I received. I'm not sure if the 1" are the same, I ordered the 1.5" along with the straps. I hope this helps.

No, not very easily.

If you mean sewing a couple of stitches with heavy thread after the strap loop is hooked on the Dutch clip, yes, this is a good solution. It's the same needle and thread you carry with you for repairs on the trail anyway. (This is what bloomgorge suggested.)

This is what Shug is responding to, but it depends on how you are using the carabiner you want to replace. If its connecting a tree strap to itself, the Dutch clip might be a better solution. But there are countless other uses for carabiners where the Dutch biner would be a lighter alternative.

Possibly so. The improved Dutch clip that Danvandanne mentioned is a good solution, but any Dutch clip with the needle and thread option does the job perfectly. You do carry these in your pack, don't you?

I put 2 or 3 stitches right up against the clip as suggested and have never had any kind of problem; they're not going anywhere and can only get lost if I also lose the ~6' of strap that they're attached to.
