Thanks again MAD777 now I get it and yes now it makes perfect sense. But I am with silversurfer, I am selling my z-packs tarp to fund a winter palace. I like big tarps with lots of coverage what can I say.

Have you had your cuben winter palace out in true winter conditions?

I still use my syl tarps in winter and have only used my HMG cuben on summer hangs.

I haven't really seen many cubens being used this winter in the TR section. The couple I have seen
has had some issue. The OP did not really say if this was for all year hanging so I maybe getting of topic a bit.

I had it out last week with overnight temps of 3 degrees. How come you don't use your cuben fiber tarp in winter?

I'm not convinced they will survive heavy snow or high winds.
I've tested the heck out of my syl tarps in the backyard so I trust them to keep me safe should things go from bad to even worse.



I was hoping to see more used this winter since they have been out for a few year now.

For me the better the shelter the better chance of riding out the storm vs bailing and risking exposure.

The OP did not really say if this was for all year hanging so I maybe getting of topic a bit.

In winter weather when it's cold enough that any precipitation is going to be snow and not rain, I leave the hammock and tarp at home and pack my a bivy sack and a CF pad. With plenty of mold-able snow on the ground sleeping comfortably is not an issue.

All I am trying to do here is compare 2 specific tarps. I'm not interested in the doored version of either tarp, nor do I ever pitch my tarps with the sides all the way down to the ground. I know doors serve others well, but they're not what I am looking for at the moment.
