Comfort issues on my first night hang (currently underway).

Well, I got the hammock hung in my garden and except for the slight modification that my DIY uq will need to stop it from slipping away from the hammock bottom I'm lovely and warm with just that and a fleece blanket on me.

I am having issues however with getting comfortable and I have no idea how to go about correcting them, I think it's the way the hammock is hung as I have very little space and had to take my homemade ridgeline off to get the hammock into a position where it would not be touching the ground when a load was added, so it is quite tight.
It feels like I'm laying on sharply corrugated steel which is digging into my back, I don't want to give up and call it a night, is there a quick fix?

One end ofthe hammock is attacked to a fence post and the highest possible point I could and the other to a concrete post in the garden just so you have some idea of the layout.

Thanks in advance for any help received.

Good plan, I need to get up anyway as I want to fetch the stove for a drink. I tried to take a photograph but it's quite dark here and my phone flash does little to help the situation.

Can you take it to a park or woods, or campground to try it on trees that are the correct distance apart to see if you have the same problem or not?

Oh what I would give for that to be easy and legal but I can't around here. Wild camping is technically illegal here and all the (extremely small) woodlands I know of are owned by people who shoot in them on a regular basis, I don't fancy being filled with lead while I hang really. :/

yeah, the tightness will increase the discomfort.

Are you doing the diagonal sleep?

    Good luck!

I did expect the tightness would be a major factor. I am laying diagonally, yes.

I will clear some of the trees around the garden tomorrow and see how it is with my ridgeline back in place. I'm not giving up because the experience so far has been very relaxing and enjoyable. Having a coffee in the hammock now and will have another attempt at sleep after that has gone.

If you had to remove the ridgeline because it was too short for you to hang the hammock, then that is certainly the problem. The ridgeline forces you to have the proper sag in the hammock to get a relatively flat lay without any squeeze.

It sounds like you're headed for a TurtleLady Stand

That was the reason I added the ridgeline in the first place, to make sure I got the right angle every time without having to do too much messing about.
Tonight was an experiment that I am about to call time on due mainly to this UQ slipping away and my back and shoulders getting very cold (along with the comfort issue), then do some modifications tomorrow and try again when I can, probably in about a weeks time.
