    @nd this

    Jst fired up my new/used/craigslist/ thread injector last night, just doing some test edges & hems, found that the pins were a pain to work with, it seems like the "hand-rolled" method will be the way to go, with a little practice.

    also found that my initial urge to go "super-slow" was overly cautious, like riding a bike, it is tough to keep to a straight line in "super-slow" speed, once I tried kicking the speed pedal up (just a little) it seemed easier to sew a straight line (IMHO)

    I, too, am a fan of my hem foots. And edge binder foots. And service contracts with your local repair shop. And taking classes at your local shop...

    So I have found this
    My question is does anyone else inject this way? Two needles one bobbin. it makes a crisscross on the underside and two stitches on the top side. Am I losing the benefit of two separate stitches? any ideas?

    Rolled Hem Foot

    Just finished two double-layer, gathered end hammocks last night - one 9' for my son and one 12' for me. Took the entire 14 yards of material and ran a rolled-hem stitch down one side of the material. Unlocked the foot and manually added several stitches to lock the thread where I would later cut.

    Everything ran fine on the 1/8 foot but I think I want to use a 1/4 or 5/8 next time - would be easier to see the stitch working. Had my son on the exit side of the thread injector making sure the nylon was lined up square.

    We had fun and he asked me (11 years old!) when we were going to start selling them! I told him lets see what his fellow Scout buddies think about the hammocks first then maybe he can start a "cottage company". LOL

    Next project is a couple of silnylon tarps & bug nets for the hammocks, maybe some reptile thingamabobs for the tarps & hammocks.

    Too many projects but lots of winter month bad weather time!

    I do all my rolled hems by hand, but am interested in a binding foot for my cheapo brother machine. Any sources for good/cheap feet?

    No personal experience but have often seen Ramblinrev write that it's for decorative purposes only and not good for what we do with hammocks. Too bad as it sure would make life easier.

    Knotty, you are a wealth of information always knowing the former threads for reference. This is great stuff as I just saw those kinds of needles last week at a sew/vac shop. Good thing I held off.

    Thanks Knotty, exactly what I was looking for. Does dress the edge of a top quilt up nice. Used it last night to mod a sportsmans guide mummy bag. I didn't think it would be structurally sound it used for strength, thanks.
