Question Help, Hammocks for my kids

When making hammocks for my kids do I want to shorten the length of their hammocks for the best result or just make them full size? I have ripstop nylon for them, my daughter chose purple so I ordered 4 yards. My son and I both chose black I ordered 12 yards so that I would have plenty of extra for other projects. They are both about four foot tall.

i suppose its really up to you on that if you want the children to grow and keep the hammock obviosly make them full length but if you think its only going to be for this part of there life i would say shorter so you can do other things with the fabric

I think this might depend how much much your children will punish their hammocks. If you think they are going to be tuff on the things then you could make them shorter knowing that it will have to be replaced before they grow out of them.

Is there going to be a different comfort level for them if I shorten them down? If not I'm thinking full length is the way to go....

    Thanks guys!

Assuming that a full length is 120" I would make the kids hammock 96". This work for them up to 5 1/2' tall. The best reason for a shorter kids hammock is that it is easier to fit under the same tarp and keep good coverage.

+1. but over the last two years, I've had to upgrade my kids' hammocks... 8' IMHO is ok, 9' and they'd last a few years longer. My kids are in the tweens, so they're growing like weeds....

to answer this it would have a diffrent feel but would still be comfertable, it would roughly be like if you were used to like a grand trun then stepped into an eno doubles nest you now have that extra two feet your not sure what to do with

you could always go with 9' to 10' hammocks and have plenty of material for other fun little projects like snake skins, bbsacks, peak bags, ect. Glad to hear you've got your kidsinvolved in the wonders of the outdoors. Happy trails.

My daughter liked hers adult sized. She preferred to hang almost straight across, instead of at a slight angle. Was super comfortable for her so I didn't tell her any different.

That's a new way to make a flat lay hammock! Make the hammock 72 to 84 inches wide and just sleep straight across. Anyone tried this?
