    Why Permatex

The Permatex is silly expensive, ($6 for 1.5oz?) the spout should be smaller, and it should come packaged so the spout remains with the tube after the better-sealing cap goes back on.

But it goes far, flows as it is supposed to, and it adheres and stays clear.

Better living chemically. I tried another fine commercial product, but it wouldn't adhere to sil nylon and visibly scabbed. Another HF member with more attention to craft and detail than I have didn't succeed with home-brew on a tarp we have in common. So, credit Permatex chemical engineers for knowing much about their core, adhesion and freedom from it. I suppose McNett knows about their specialty industry needs, too. Be sure you get the right product from them, not the one for urethane-sealed tarps and tents.

...Right. The engineering we go through to be more comfortable in the woods, where we go to escape the engineering.

Permatex makes many silicone products. What is being referred to here is Permatex Flowable Silicone Windshield and Glass Sealer and is available at auto supply and big box stores.

Cool. Plenty of those in this town. I'm going to let my fingers do the walking.

Hmm. When I thatch my tarp and shingle my ridge-lines to shed water with found and folded leaves, and when I fill needle holes with dry pine needles that will swell when wet --- that's traditional craft, not engineering.

    Off topic...

Yea. I'm in the process of reading more about working with the land as much as possible for the simple sake of not having to carry more stuff (and buy more stuff in this case) and dealing with equipment shortcomings, or failure, if need be. It's all a project to me.
