will a beaver attack me in a hammock?

Raised the hammock... about 2 feet off ground, best I could do. It prolly won't hit its head on me by mistake. It stuck around almost the whole time and is still in the water a few feet away, crunching acorns. I think we have a standoff. Gonna try sleeping. Thanks all! :-*

You are probably safe but your trees are not. Then again, when you see what they can do to a tree, you may want to go higher for they are not known for their leaping ability.

I have the same issue with raccoons. The thoughts of those little front paws reaching up and touching me from below......./shudders I don't even want to think about it!

I was kayaking a few nights ago under the full moon, and heard a splash, and paddled over to find a beaver. First time I'd seen on that close at all. Bugger started swimming towards my flashlight! He got to the end of my 'yak and then lazily popped under and swam away. Awesome and eerie at the same time. Real pretty creature.

I wonder if your set up near the beavers den? Possibly a mother beaver and she wants to return to her youngins'?

Or possibly the trees are its favorite food source. Acorn = oak tree.

I find it odd that the beaver is hanging around, usually a very skiddish creature.

Or its a lovesick beaver and your hammock looks like a sprawled out girl beaver.

But, in all seriousness, I'd say move your hammock back about 50-60 yards, and give the beaver his/her space.

Beavers are rabid vicious creatures. I saw one knawing on a tree and instantly he darted into the buhes. I thought: "thank god thats over". A few minutes later i rounded a blind corner, he literally shot out of the side of the hill next to me, and went straight for my neck. I was able to fight him off with my trekking pole, but he bit one in half. If it wasn't for my 6 inch long knife(which he also bit in half) i woulda been a goner.
