    Flex 180 insulation

Can anyone post pics of their flex 180 and either their pad or zliner insulation? I'm having problems visualizing how the zliner works and/or how the sleeping pad behaves in the hammock. Does the hammock close in on you when you are in it.

    Thanks BWB

This won't be quite the answer to your question but you may find it helpful. I use an Exped Downmat 9 inflated to about 2/3 of max with my Flex. Very warm and doesn't slide out from under me despite all the tossing and turning I do throughout the night.

When you're laying in the Flex, a prominent longitudinal ridge forms along the grey fabric panel and prevents the downmat from sliding laterally. The mat may slide down toward the foot of the hammock a bit but you'll still be on it.

The attached photo doesn't have the downmat in it but shows the prominent fabric ridge along my right side.

When I owned an NX250, the same downmat would easily slide out laterally from under me during the night

    Beltwaybandit,

I should have added that my Downmat 9 is the wider model. I think it's 26 or
27 inches wide. A 20 inch wide pad or mattress might slide out laterally (or you might roll off to the side of it).

    Beltwaybandit,

I set up the Flex and shot a couple of photos with the downmat in it. You'll see how the fabric ridge locks the downmat in so that it doesn't shift laterally yet still allows you to put your feet over on the back side of the ridge when sidesleeping. I'm not sure you said whether or not you owned a Flex.
If not, you'll also see how flat the lie is.

    Tony-
Thanks so much for making the effort to shoot some photos. I REALLY appreciate it. It always amazes me when people like yourself go out of the way for a stranger. Still on the fence between a NX250 and the FLEX 180 but leaning on the flex at this point. The idea of my gear/pack being up with me and not on me is very attractive.

Thanks for the great photos. I've never tried using a mat in my flex as I figured it would move around too much - us an UQ instead. The mat looks comfortable, going to try that soon!

    Hi Keith,
The wide downmat is comfortable, warm and is locked in by the center fabric ridge of the Flex. You have a little leeway in positioning it for a diagonal lie. I had it when I bought my nx250. It slid around a lot in that hammock. Can't compare the downmat to an underquilt since I've never owned one. The downmat seems to be easier to "rig". Also can't speak for how a 20 inch downmat would work.
