Honestly I have no idea. It was the string on a "corded" set of earplugs for hearing protection I use. I removed the cord because it bugged me and stuck it in my desk drawer.(somewhat of a pack-rat thing) It is hollow core braided like water-ski rope. Wonder if the earplug company has specs on the string. Its probably too thin for any real use.

Shug are you making them out of Dynaglide or amsteel? If you haven't tried the DG you should. They would support you just fine, you look to be about my size anyway. Its scart at first cause its so thin , after the initial shock your fine. Be sure to double wrap your hammock or put a paracord sheath on it if u decide to use DG.

I just happen to have some amsteel gray so they shall be amsteel......

It seems like a ucr makes more sense because it uses less rope. I understand that it is more prone to slippage. Is that because all of the force is on a single line while only half the force goes to the bury on the whoopie.

Also, how long a bury is required for a ucr to hold in 1/8" amsteel.

And, how long a bury is required for a fixed eye in 1/8" amsteel.

I did a search on the forum and couldnt find the answer. Thanks for everyone's help.

For that you will probably have to experiment to find the length that holds. Maybe someone has made a UCR with 1/8" Amsteel and tell you. I did, but that was further back than my memory can hold.

And, how long a bury is required for a fixed eye in 1/8" amsteel.

According to the Samson splicing instructions, You need 3 fids for the bury and bury it in 3.5 fids. That comes to 8.25" and 9.6".

Samson has the splicing instructions here. Look under the 12 strand splices for class 2 rope.
