    River's West Artillery Blanket?

    Hey All,
I received a River's West Artillery Blanket for father's day, and I'm thinking about using it as an underquilt, or maybe folding it up and trying to use it as a sort of makeshift pad. The material seems like it would keep the heat in pretty well, and the company claims that it's 100% wind and water proof. If I slung it underneath, in uq positioning I would probably stuff clothes/mylar blanket between the layers of my hammock.
Anyone ever use anything like this/have any experience with this kind of gear? I'm a bit of a nuub...so I'm trying to avoid barking up the wrong tree.

I'm going to assume by the abject cricket sound that nobody has any info/input.
Now, I hereby make it my personal mission to give this thing a run and let everyone know how things go. Pray for me, as the mission at hand seems rather perilous. But, for the kingdom, I will sacrifice much...or something.

Looking at the picture from their web site it looks like you could run shock cord through the hems on the edges. It would be like the PLUQ but longer.
Everyone ought to believe in something....I believe I'll go set up the hammock!

It would be easier to comment on if we knew more about it. Links help that way. I looked it up and still do not know what it is as there is no real tech spec. If it's wool then it is heavy and not particularly compressible. More pad than quilt. If it is something else then no ideas...
    YMMV

Looks like fliece. The PLUQ or poncho liner underquilt can be bought for lees and you can use the River's West Artillery Blankett for a top quilt. IMO

I thought others would comment, sorry for delay.

My concern was the waterproof feature. Waterproof generally means non-breathable, which can lead to condensation in the hammock from body vapor.

Follow the PLUQ tutorial and see how it works? Its all for the science.

    Thanks for the replies, all.
The blanket feels almost like an ultra thin wetsuit material covered with fleece. There are no specs I can find anywhere either, and this particular one isn't listed on their page anymore...
I figured I'd take a shot in the dark and see if anyone had a crystal ball.
This is as close as I can find on their website. The video is pretty cool.

I noticed after a little searching that the Rivers West Blanket almost weighs 3lbs ( maybe thats shipping weight ). Also here is a discussion on the difference between wool and fleece blankets and the Rivers West is a fleece laminated blanket like some of the Windstopper fleece Jackets. http://forums.equipped.org/ubbthread...&Number=158690 . If one is car camping I don't see a problem but if hiking it might be a different story.

I wondered as I did not find a description either. I know fleece is not water or wind proof. It is relatively crush resistant so it does not change loft very much. That would indicate using it as a pad rather than hanging it underneath in my mind. YMMV.

I think that's the first thing I'm going to try. It might be relegated to my random gear pile/use around the campfire at home pile rather than packable gear. It's cool either way!
