I have a vision of JCP executives looking at their graphs and charts scratching their heads over the unexpected run on puffer jackets.

Very nice mod! Reminds me of the EXPED Wallcreeper.

Lorax and wiscosin dang those are nice mods! Ok, so I have already refreshed many of my hammock and hiking gear to lighter weight stuff and now i am thinking i will end up sewing some day because of all the influence of guys who sew on this forum. I am just too afraid to buy one and try to figure it out.

I got my portable kenmore 1750 free from craigslist...great machine and small investment. I would suggest you watch craigslist for a free (or cheap) machine, or put a wanted ad on there for a machine. Many people have machines collecting dust.

You might want to check out the guide by RamblinRev about sewing machines. He gives several good pointers on what to look for. However, who cares if it is free...right?

Can't you just take the zipper out of the second jacket and sew it closed and use it for the connection for the first jacket?? Just a thought.

I suspect that the length of the zipper might not match the diameter of the waists, but it might be close enough. You could certainly try it. i wanted to keep the zipper on the vest portion though.

I think you're right, after looking at mine, there's no way it would fit around the waist.

So how did you maintain the zipper on the extended portion of the vest side? does the extension itself still have it's own zipper?
