Anyone have an opinion on the difference between the Dutch clips pictured here:

and those pictured here:

Is the difference even worth fretting over?

Interesting I have the ones in the first link. I love them. I think the other ones are a bit overkill.
I have the recalled version that is the same style as the first link but is lighter. JRB said if i sewed them to my straps to prevent the rotation I would be fine. I would be interested in a weight comparison between the old dutch clips, the lighter JRB clips, and the new JRB clips.
I only have the new version and dont have a scale. If you were to go off the JRB website: " The subject Dutch Clips weigh 12 grams each. The earlier, heavier Dutch Clips weigh 15 grams each and are not subject to this notice." and the new clips weight in at 24 grams a pair. That would make me think the original version was 15 grams and both versions after are 12 grams. I may be wrong though...
Good catch on the JRB site I didn't really read to far into it. If that is the case my clips weigh as much as the new ones. I have them sewn in so
A) I don't loose them
B) They don't rotate on me
C) SO I DON'T LOOSE THEM
I think the new clips would be just as functional as the older clips with a little added security in that they "should" be less likely to turn on you.
I have 5 hammocks that I use the original Dutch Clips on and every set is sewed to the straps to prevent them from rotating and even worse, falling out of the loop when taking down the hammock (happened one time and took a while to find it in the leaves and grass)
I am still 18 but with 52 years of experience !
The most recent version with the extra nub to prevent rotating weighs 12.5 grams (I think). The retension hook is also thicker so if it did rotate it still will hold 1000 pounds. The old version from the HF store had the thicker retention hook and more material on the top and that is why it weighed 15 grams. I would say the latest version that JRB sells is the best for light weight and strength.
Peace Dutch
