    Custom UnderGround Quilt

Well I'm finally ready to post about my new under quilt. I've only been able to test it a few times in the backyard but the weather here has been like a roller-coaster. Temps have gone from 39 at night to a very windy 19. My Underground quilt was custom made for me due to me having back surgery and then finding that the quilts I had couldn't keep me warm. Underground made me a quilt that goes from my shoulders to just beyond my feet (60"). And then we worked together to figure out what temp rating I needed to stay warm in my neck of the woods (lowest here may reach 17ish F). I ended up with an under quilt rated at -10 degrees !! This thing lofts out to like 6"+ !! Quilt arrived right after Christmas and I was hanging by that afternoon.
My first night was HOT. So hot that I changed out my upper top winter quilt for my summer weight one. I was having to vent so much that my winter top quilt wasn't working. The summer one worked out just fine. Weird to say that I used a light weight summer TQ with a super low rated UQ, during the winter!!
The other night the temps went to 19 with awful winds. I hung without a tarp and only used my new UnderGround quilt and my homemade TQ. I wore reg pj's, not my camping wools or silk. No hat, no mittens and no TARP!! I did wear summer smartwool socks. I did all this on purpose to really get a feel for how this Underground winter UQ was gonna perform. It did outstanding!! My back stayed toasty warm, even when the winds were whipping around so much that my BlackBird was about to take flight!
Some words about the quilt... It's very well made. It comes with the triangle thingys which I'd never used before. Wow, they work nicely to hold up the quilt!! The ends of the quilt have some of the nicest worked out darts that I've ever seen. These darts take up a lot of the material at the ends of the quilt so that I was able to cinch it up without a lot of bunching of the material. This quilt also has DWR material on the outside layer and breathable material on the inside layer. The DWR helps a lot with the wind and I don't worry about rain splash. My quilt has 21 oz of 800+ down and a total weight of 32 oz with suspension and is 60" long!! Quilt also came with two sacks, a storage sack and a small stuff sack. I managed to get the quilt into the stuff sack but will probably not use it again because I prefer to free stuff into my backpack.
All in all, I'm extreamly happy with this under quilt. It was made perfectly to my needs. This quilt will go on all my Scout trips in temps from 39 or lower. And I now know that I don't have to pack any extra blankets to stay warm!

Are you sure you are not prepping to attend the Mount Rogers hang later this month? That is one lofty looking quilt.

    Cheers

THAT is a very excellent product. And don't you just love the service you get from Quilt as well as a execellent product? I know I do as I have one UQ of theirs and couple more on the way for me and the wife.

Man that sure was fun putting that together for you Tina, I'm so glad it's meeting your expectation, looking forward to your field reports at -10*... Personally that's a pretty conservative rating with 21 oz in a 3/4 60X50 UQ, the true DWR shell sure helps with the windchill factor.

Thanks a million for the work...

Howdo Acer, didn't recognize the handle at first... You'll have some more downy quilts to play with soon...
