peaked tarp

i am thinking of making my tarp with a high spot.that way the edges,and ends of it can be kept lower,in bad weather mode,and i can still stand up next to the hammock
.this is the approximate material cut out pattern.

i would like to know if anyone has seen this ,tried it, discarded the idea because ....tell me why it will not work.
or does/will it work.
started sewing up a 1/4 scale tarp to see what happens,and practice sewing.will post pics when done.i just ordered a bunch of ripstop so please let me know what you think so i can dump this idea if it will not work.
i only have about 3 hours sewing expierience.my mom got me started and had a pfaff 1215 she was not useing(it has an automatic needle threader !!! )she gave it to me!!!
why can i not just make normal stuff?

With the ridge sloping towards the foot end sharply, doesn't that force you to hang the tarp higher above the hammock, thus exposing to side-blown rain?

LT, I did a similar design for my my oldest boy, he has it at college now. But I was going to do the same thing as you and slit the skinny tail end, to allow the suspension to pass thru. Never got it done before he left. I'll tackle it this summer when he's home.
Your design has a more pronounced peak, but I'm close, once I add a tie out to the upper-mid ridgeline. Or, possibly a tent pole, run corner to corner.

I like the design.......how are you going to be keeping the rain that runs off from the peak dripping into the hammock. Are you going to use omni-tape or velcro to close the split seams at the end of the tarp? Is the ridgline between the two splits longer than your hammock??????

Not knocking the design just not seeing where the water will go along the ridgeline..........

I like your out of the box thinking.

Because you're loosing a fair amount of ground with the peak style (actual ridgeline distance), I would suggest making the initial tarp length quite a bit longer - 12ft should be good, and that would likely drop it to more like 10.5ft once you cut the slit and put it back together.

I know this is anathema here, but this would also make it a very nice ground tarp if you ever had to use it as such.

i am cursed with thinking outside the..hey...i do my best outside the box thinkin outside we are all a little out of the box on this forum
the main ridgeline( 6a and 6b) holds the very peak.depending on how low i pitch the foot end ( 1 ) ridge cord,i may need only the peak ridgeline (6b ) to go to the head end ridge cord tree.if i can not reach high enough i will need a full peak ridgeline ( 6a and 6b) . (..so if the point were cord (1) attaches to tree is not on a straight line or plane with were cord ( 6b ) attaches i will need to use cord ( 6a ) to keep peak peaked. [/COLOR]the lower head end cord ( 5 ) should attach to tree,i am planning on shock cord here.it should re quire 4 stakes. (cord sets 2 and 4 )the two pullouts in the center (set no 3) are only a maybe,if i want more room,but will reuire 2 more stakes if i use them. (1 and 5 ) are attached to trees.4 to 6 stakes

hopefully i can pitch the tarp lower than i showed in drawing that is what the slits are for.i drew it that way to get a better view of every thing

Question, if your height is 5'10, so you made your peak 6', how high would you plan on putting the straps/line for the peak to the trees? 7'?

Interesting idea to get some standing room.
