You have had continued success with the setup ? How much weight ?

What condition were the "used" poles ?
"Others have found better sources." can you direct to the source/link ?

Have other HF members tried this ?

Guess I will jump back into reading the very lengthy turtledog saga.

    Continues to be very successful.

Weighs ~2.2 lbs/section so 33 to 35 lbs depending on the ridgepole length and breaks down into 4' lengths that fit in the supplied bag.

See pg 68 of the Turtlelady thread for additional info. Posts 675 and 676 have info on better pricing.

Several other HF members have tried this set up.

Most info is in the Turtlelady Bamboo Stand thread linked above. See the MustardDog thread for a wild set up using these poles.

Either install the snap buttons Mustardman came up with or use a wrap of duct tape/gaffers tape at the joints.

    gmcttr,

Thanks for the page-marks. ( thank you, thank you ) Will follow them up.

Actually I didn't make it clear when asking about the weight.
How much human weight will it hold ?
Expect I will find that out on those pages.

No one knows. I'm guessing (or thinking out loud) the first limiting factors would be what rope is used to lash the poles together (and how well the lashing is done) and the strength of the material used to hang the ridgepole.

I wouldn't hesitate to bet $100 that mine would hold 500 lbs as I think it would hold well above that. A word to the wise...when I ask if you want to bet $$, what I'm really asking is if you want to give me your money.

For what your looking at spending on two tripods I would think you woe be better suited and much lighter as well as more compact with a Handy Hammock stand. http://www.handyhammock.co.uk/

    Paul,

Have looked at that over the years. It may be in my future for carry-in ( 1,2miles ) backpacking.

    Just Jeff's review http://www.hammockforums.net/forum/s...ad.php?t=65826

    I can imagine Arthur . . . . . . . . . . . .

He will only be using a portable stand occasionally, vanCamping, weight is not a problem.

I am back reading the turtledog stand pages.
