    Orca IX UQ suspension

I just got my new Baby Orca IX UQ and can't wait to try it out. The only problem - I thought it came with a suspension but mine didn't.

Can anyone please post some directions or pictures on how to best attach this to my WBBB? I'm assuming that I need some sort of shock cord loop at the head and foot end of my UQ, but what length? What thickness of shock cord?

    Thanks!
    Justin

the website says that it comes with the suspension, you should give them a call and tell them it didn't. I hope they send you your parts... goodluck

It's supposed to have a 64" length of 1/8" shock cord on each end, tied to the corner loops.

Contact Tree to Tree Trail Gear... they will make it right!

Globetruck, can you tell me how many darts are in each of the four sides of your Baby Orca?

    Here's some pictures:
    - Orca laying on its back, with its "head" folded over to meet with its "tail." Man, these baby orcas are flexible creatures!
    - Second picture has red lines drawn over one of the edge's seams. I believe that the thread injecting crowd would call those things "darts."

In all honesty, my impressions with the orca:
    - Wow, this thing is light! Construction seems top notch, and I hope that TTTGear didn't cut any corners.
    - The pictures of it in its stuff sack make it look a little larger than a Nalgene bottle. It is... but the thing won't take up nearly that much space in a pack.

I hope everything gets straightened out.

    Back to counting the "darts"

4 darts on each long edge x 2 long edges = 8 long edge darts
2 darts on each short edge x 2 short edges = 4 short edge darts
    1 dart on each corner x 4 corners = 4 corner darts

    Hopefully that makes sense.

I just bought some 1/8" shock cord. Instead of tying a 64" piece to each end, I tied a single smaller length to each corner (about 30 inches each). I took the 2 strands from each end and ran them through a single cord lock, so that I can easily use the cord lock to fine tune the tightness.

So far when lying in the hammock, it feels like I have a great seal without any gaps. I plan on testing it tonight, lows are supposed to be in the lower 30s. Judging from other reviews, it seems that I may need to augment the IX with a pad or perhaps space blanket.

Last night hit about 30-32 degrees, woke up with plenty of frost on my tarp but stayed warm all night.

Setup: Marmot pinnacle 15 degree down bag as TOP QUILT (it's an incredibly warm bag), Baby Orca IX UQ, and 1/4" foam pad. The UQ was well worth the investment - it wrapped around the pad edges and I never got any cold spots.

At about midnight, I woke up and noticed some condensation in front of my mouth on the WBBB bug net, so I unzipped the bug net and opened up the hammock. Stayed dry all night, no condensation problems.
