I wish I could claim my yard but I live on a state forest so my yard and my view belong to the state... it's pretty darn nice either way

I have been trying to figure out how I was going to do my bug netting. The mosquitoes are really bad here (I live near a wetland and half of my yard is normally standing water in the summer). After seeing the simple method and tutorial by fronkey I decided to order some netting and go for it.

We'll see how my first night goes

A funny thing happened this morning... I wasn't in a hurry to get up! Normally my back hurts to the point that I'm happy to get up and out of bed (have to get up is probably a better description). This morning I woke up at about the same time as normal but this time I was happy to lounge around in the hammock and finally had to drag myself out when it started getting late.

Things started out the way they often do for first overnighters... I went out and was trying to get my sleeping bag into the hammock and my boots off as the mosquitoes were literally swarming around me. Since I was rushing things a bit I sat on the hammock and put the netting over me while I took off my boots. As I went to lift my feet into the hammock I tipped a$$-over-teakettle! Now all of my sleeping gear was on the ground and my feet were tied up in hammock/netting while I was laughing. I got everything thrown in and safely into the hammock and then spent the next 20 minutes killing mosquitoes that were inside the netting with me.

It was a good nights sleep, I still have plenty of things to improve and get used to, and I need a UQ now (this is my next project that I might start tonight).

All in all it was a resounding success!

Great to hear that! How cold did it get down where you are? It was down to 41 when I woke this morning here in Gainesville, and under insulation is absolutely needed at those temps. Did you use a pad? Or a sleeping bag? Or something else?

Fortunately, it also means that the skeeters are too cold to bother anyone, making for a topless night (insert bad joke about adult entertainment here ).

Sorry to hear about the acrobatics, but it's certainly a learning curve on getting in and out of the hammock. Glad you weren't hurt.

About that backyard look at it this way, it's bigger than most people have and you don't have to pay property taxes! Finally getting some nice weather to hang in around here and it looks like your off to a good start. Would have loved to have been there for your flip, would have helped you up. After getting myself of the ground from laughing. Hit the floor twice myself recently. Once from tying a knot backwards in muletape, didn't know you could do that. Next missed the hammock and sat in the UQ. Seems to never be anyone around to share these with.
Most of us end up poorer here but richer for being here. Olddog, Fulltime hammocker, 365 nights a year.
