HH Velcro VS Zip (Weight comparison question)

    Hey folks,

Does anyone know how has Hennessy Hammock managed to add a zipper to it's hammocks without increasing the total weight? I have HH UL and a Hyperlite too, both with the original velcro. I got 2QZQ put a zipper on the UL, and now that's my preferred hammock. However, it added 3 oz to the rig.

I've kept the Hyper to loan to my non-hanger friends, or to take on trips where I want to shed pack ounces. But now am debating about converting it to the zipper mod.

I noticed that HH is now manufacturing the Hyperlite with the zipper option but the total weight is still the same. How can that be?

I'd love to hear your comments on this.

    Cheers,

    R

I'm going to have a zipper mod done to my BP UL and my Expedition. My Hyperlite will stay as is. I did pick up a no-net hyperlite from another poster here, that is my winter hammock, if there is such a thing.

Zipper instead of velcro?? Maybe that is why the weight is the same(or too close to mention). ZQ

    I don't think I understood your comment.

A good zipper must add 2 - 3 oz to the total weight. For the ounce-counters (which are the users likely to buy a Hyperlite or Ultralight) that's not negligible. I think HH should provide the true total weight of all the hammocks, and show the difference between having velcro versus having zipper; or be prepared to explain how they have attained the same weight in both versions.

2Questions is probably referencing the fact that the velcro is not part of the zippered models. So you gain 2 or 3 oz by adding the zipper, but lose the same amount by not putting an entry slit and velcro on the hammock. Even trade.
    Trust nobody!

Ok, I get it now. Replacing the velcro with a zipper might have saved about one ounce, and using a different line material might have saved another ounce.

    Thanks for your responses.
